This photograph depicts a close-up of the lips of a patient with a herpes simplex lesion on the lower lip, on the 2nd day after onset, due to the herpes simplex virus-1 (HSV-1). HSV-1 is usually the cause for oral lesions sometimes referred to as cold sores, fever blisters, or more technically known as recurrent herpes labialis. PHIL 1573 offers another view of this patient’s condition.
