This photograph depicts a close-up of the lips of a patient with a herpes simplex lesion on the lower lip, on the 2nd day after onset, due to the herpes simplex virus-1 (HSV-1). HSV-1 is usually the cause for oral lesions sometimes referred to as cold sores, fever blisters, or more technically known as recurrent herpes labialis.
