Caption:
This photograph depicted a close ventral view of the soft tick, Carios kelleyi, formerly Ornithodoros kelleyi, also known as the bat tick. Though this tick species has been shown to carry both the spotted fever Rickettsia, and relapsing fever Borrelia pathogens, there is no evidence of these diseases having been passed to humans through a tick bite from this arachnid.
