This photograph depicted a close anterior view of a patient’s penis, highlighting a condition known as phimosis of the penile foreskin, which had been the result of a primary syphilitic chancre. Due to the chancre, adhesions developed affixing the foreskin to the glans penis. Whereupon, the foreskin could not be retracted in order to expose the entire glans. This condition was caused by the bacterium, Treponema pallidum.
