This was a Peruvian hospital waiting room that had to be converted to an emergency cholera ward during the country’s 1991, epidemic. In some of the most heavily affected towns, 2% of the population was treated for cholera in a matter of months. Due to early warnings, and advance preparation, this cholera epidemic in urban Peru produced the lowest mortality rate of any cholera epidemic.
