This 1964 image, captured by the creator of the renown Epidemic Intelligence Service (EIS), Dr. Alex Langmuir, depicts what had been a West Pakistani vaccine laboratory, where workers were in the process of scraping vaccine pulp from the cowpox lesions on the skin of immobilized, anesthetized cows, in order to produce smallpox vaccine.
