These four test tubes contained lysine iron agar growth medium, which were inoculated with Shigella sp., Escherichia coli, Salmonella sp., and Arizona sp. bacteria, each respectively, producing what is referred to as a stab culture. Lysine iron agar tests for the detection of both lysine decarboxylase (LDC), and hydrogen sulfide (H2S) production, when attempting to identify members of the family Enterobacteriaceae, especially for Salmonella spp. and Arizona spp.
