Caption:
Under a low magnification of 25X, this scanning electron microscopic (SEM) image reveals surface irregularities in this polycarbonate biofilm culture material, upon which a Proteus mirabilis bacterial biofilm had been cultivated. Biofilms, or the colonization of bacteria on living and non-living surfaces, are cultured in the laboratory to investigate the link between biofilm formation, infection and the development of antimicrobial resistance.
