This is an inferior view of a human brain that had been infected with Gram-negative, Haemophilus influenzae bacteria, causing what is referred to as Haemophilus meningitis. Note the overall inflammatory response displayed upon the brain’s surface, including the presence of a purulent exudate in the region of the midbrain, cerebellum, and spinal cord.
