This historic photograph, captured on May 18, 1980, depicted the eruption of Mount St. Helens, which became the epicenter of an earthquake measuring 5.1 on the Richter scale. The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) provided funding, and assisted in a series of studies on the health effects of the Mt. Saint Helens eruption, which included the consequences of dust inhalation.
