This historic image was captured sometime in the late 1960s, and depicted Operations Officer, Anthony R. Masso, using a non-mechanical mode of transport in Niger, Africa during the country’s Smallpox Eradication Program. In other words, he was riding a camel to each stop-off. In 1980, the World Health Organization (WHO) declared the global eradication of smallpox, and recommended that all countries cease vaccination.
