Description:This is a micrograph of an exudate taken from a subdural empyema due to an infection caused by multiple genera of bacteria.
This subdural empyema was caused by a mixture of a number of organisms including Bacteroides melaninogenicus, a Fusobacterium sp., and a microaerophilic Streptococcus sp., viewed using a Gram-stain technique.
