Description:Magnified 500X, this photomicrograph reveals a conidiophore of Exophiala salmonis isolated from a Nigerian horse.
Exophiala spp. are dematiaceous fungi, i.e. dark conidia, spores, or hyphae, and distributed in soil, plants, water and decaying wood material. Some Exophiala spp. are known to cause subcutaneous diseases in humans and other vertebrates.
