This is a photomicrograph of a heart valve tissue specimen, which was processed using methenamine silver stain, and revealed histopathologic changes indicative of an infection known as zygomycosis, caused by the mold, Mucor pusillus, which included the presence of these irregular, non-septate hyphae.
