Description:This patient presented with what was first thought to be syphilis, but turned out to be seborrheic dermatitis.
This condition of the skin occurs in area of the body where the sebaceous glands experience an over-production of sebum, and subsequently gives rise to an infection and inflammation. Other causes include fungal involvement by a form of the yeast, Malassezia, having a genetic predisposition to this condition, hormonal changes disrupting the skin’s normal physiology, generalized stress, illness, fatigue, and sleep deprivation.
