Under a magnification of 300X, this photomicrograph depicts the cellular histopathology that had been associated with a case of Tamiami virus encephalitis. The Tamiami virus has been found to be harbored in cotton rats, Sigmodon hispidus. This virus is a member of the Tacaribe complex, a serotype of the genus Arenavirus, or New World arenaviruses.
