This image depicts an anterior, or head on view, of two adult carpenter bees, Xylocopa virginica. The male was mounted on the left, and a female on the right, revealed differing facial morphology. Some male carpenter bees, like the one shown here, have a yellow clypeus, the area on an insect's face located below the frons, and above the labrum.
