Caption:
This image depicts a Petri dish culture plate containing the selective, MacConkey growth medium, which had been inoculated with the bacteria, Escherichia coli, Fusobacterium mortiferum, Proteus vulgaris, and Clostridium perfringens. Only Gam-negative bacteria can grow on a MacConkey plate. A Gram-positive bacterium, like Clostridium perfringens find the conditions on this plate completely inhospitable, and therefore, will not thrive.
