This image depicts a lateral view of the left elbow region of a 19 year-old Ghanaian, who’d presented with these cutaneous lesions of 8-months duration, which were diagnosed as old, juxta-articular nodules, due to a disease known as yaws, caused by the Treponema pallidum subsp. pertenue spirochete. The patient was treated with an intramuscular injection of 2.4 mega units of benzathine benzylpenicillin.
