Caption:
This image depicts a dorsal view of a patient’s left foot, revealing the effects of a condition known as late yaws. See both PHIL 3829, and 16933, for a view of this patient’s left and right hand, and the effects of this treponemal disease on those regions as well. Late yaws develops in only about 10% of people who are infected with yaws. It begins at least 5 years after the appearance of early yaws, and it has the potential to cause severe damage to the skin, bones and joints, especially in the legs.
