This 1981 photograph depicted this laboratorian, who was preparing quality control materials to be used in neonatal hyperthyroid screening. To diagnose hyperactivity of the thyroid gland, a blood test is used to measure the level of thyroid hormones in the blood, including thyroid stimulating hormone (TSH), triiodothyronine (T3), and thyroxine (T4).
