This historic image depicts what was a make-shift hospital created to care for smallpox patients during an epidemic in Kosovo, Yugoslavia in 1972. Over the course of the epidemic, more than 170 individuals were infected with smallpox. The outbreak began when a traveler returned to his home in Kosovo carrying the deadly virus.
