These field physicians were checking an immunization reaction in a man vaccinated, during a smallpox epidemic in Yugoslavia, 1972. Over the course of the epidemic, more than 170 individuals were infected with smallpox. The outbreak began when a traveler returned to his home in Kosovo carrying the deadly virus.
