Caption:
This image from 1969, depicts a close view of a two year-old boy’s left eye, revealing the effects of an accidental vaccinial inoculation. In this particular instance, this boy’s mother had been vaccinated 12 days before this boy’s ocular vaccinia became apparent. This patient was hospitalized for 9 days, and treated with vaccinia immune globulin (VIG). The photograph was captured 8 days after the onset of this lesion, and we can begin to see considerable resolution, accompanied by beginning scarring of the eyelids. See PHIL 3246, 3247, 14257, and 14258, for sequential views depicting the progressive healing of this accidental ocular vaccinial inoculation.
