This 1969 image depicts the effects of an accidental vaccinial inoculation of a 2-year-old boy’s left eye. In this particular instance, this boy’s mother had been vaccinated 12-days before his ocular vaccinia became apparent. This patient was hospitalized for 9 days, and treated with vaccinia immune globulin (VIG). The photograph was captured 4 days after the onset of this lesion. See PHIL 3247, 3248, 14257, and 14258, for sequential views depicting the progressive healing of this accidental ocular vaccinial inoculation.
