This young girl was lying in her hospital bed after having been infected with smallpox, during an epidemic in Kosovo, Yugoslavia in March and April, 1972. During the epidemic, over 170 individuals were infected with smallpox. The outbreak began when a traveler returned to his home in Kosovo carrying the deadly virus.
