This photomicrograph of a lactophenol cotton blue stained specimen revealed some of the ultrastructural morphology exhibited by a fungal organism, Phialophora verrucosa, a pathogenic, dematiaceous, or dark colored, fungus associated with chromoblastomycosis, a chronic infection of the skin and subcutaneous tissue.
