This photograph depicts a close view of the forehead of a 4-month-old infant, revealing a pustular lesion on his brow ridge, which had manifested due to a case of chickenpox, an infectious disease caused by the varicella zoster virus (VZV), also known as Human herpesvirus 3 (HHV-3). The image was captured on the 4th day of the boy’s illness. He developed chickenpox 11 to 12-days after exposure to the grandmother, who presented with herpes zoster, or shingles. The patient had presented to New York-Presbyterian Hospital.
