This photograph depicts a close view of a culture dish, which had given rise to this colony of a basidiomycete fungal organism, Schizophyllum commune. In this view, you are able to see numbers of sexual reproductive structures, or fruiting bodies, called basidiocarps. See PHIL 10891 and 10892, for a photomicrograph revealing the presence of S. commune in a tissue sample.
