This photomicrograph depicts the Gram-negative bacterium, Fusobacterium fusiforme, which had been cultured in blood agar, for a 48 hour time period. F. fusiforme, along with the spirochete Borrelia vincentii, are the organisms responsible for the condition known as Vincent’s angina, which produces symptoms that include gingival ulcerations, and an accompanying pharyngeal infection.
