Caption:
This photomicrograph reveals the presence of numerous, Gram-negative, Actinobacillus ureae, formerly Pasteurella ureae, bacteria, which had been cultured in a growth medium for a 24 hour incubation period. The bacterium A. ureae is a common inhabitant of the human nasopharynx, and is an infrequent cause of meningitis in debilitated, immunocompromised patients.
