This historic image from 1978, depicted Center for Disease Control (CDC) laboratorian, Dr. Moss, inside his laboratory as he was performing a combined gas chromatography-mass spectrometry procedure used to identify cellular components from microorganisms. This process of gas-liquid chromatography, would be used to differentiate the strains of bacteria that were the cause of Legionnaires’ disease.
