Caption:
Captured in San Francisco, California during a plague field study, this image depicted a mouse that was being introduced into a glass vial, known as a flea feeding tube, which was equipped with a window that would allow the mouse’s abdomen to protrude. This would enable the technician to place a flea on the rodent’s abdomen to better observe the flea’s feeding habits. See PHIL 29757 for a view of the completed set up.
