This photomicrograph depicts some of the histopathologic details seen in a placental tissue specimen from a patient with tuberculosis, which had been processed using the Ziehl-Neelsen stain. It reveals the presence of a placental thrombus, as well as a number of acid-fast, purple colored, Mycobacterium tuberculosis bacteria.
