Caption:
This image depicts a photomicrograph of a skeletal muscle tissue sample, revealing myotonic dystrophic changes as a result of Polio Type III. When the neurons themselves die, Wallerian degeneration takes place, resulting in muscle weakness in those muscles once innervated by the now dead neurons. The degree of paralysis is directly correlated to the number of deceased neurons.
