This photograph depicts Epidemic Intelligence Service (EIS) officer, Julia Petras (EIS Class of 2021), in Texas, while taking field notes, as she was obtaining soil samples from a raccoon burial site, as part of a multi-state aromatherapy spray-associated melioidosis outbreak investigation (epi-aid). Swabs from the raccoon later tested positive for Burkholderia pseudomallei, the causative agent of melioidosis. There was no evidence of environmental contamination.
