This photomicrograph of a Prussian blue stained bone marrow sample, revealed that there was a lack of iron stores. Prussian blue staining for iron particles, which reveals little or no stainable iron in the bone marrow reticulum cells, and normoblasts, is the definitive test for iron deficiency, in the case of iron deficiency anemia (IDA).
