This photomicrograph revealed the presence of hemosiderin, stained blue, within a diffuse bone marrow sample. Hemosiderin, revealed here, using periodic acid–Schiff (PAS) stain, along with a hematoxylin-eosin (H&E) counterstain, is a normal by-product produced during the breakdown of red blood cells (RBC), and the decomposition of the hemoglobin molecule contained in these RBCs.
