This photograph depicts a newborn with the genetic disorder known as Down Syndrome, due to the presence of an extra 21st chromosome. The estimated incidence of Down Syndrome is between 1:1,000 to 1:1,100 live births. Each year approximately 3,000 to 5,000 children are born with this chromosomal disorder.
