This historic photograph was taken during an Epidemic Intelligence Service (EIS) field assignment, focused on a Dengue fever investigation. Primarily a disease of the tropics, Dengue Fever is caused by one of four viruses of the genus Flaviviridae, and is spread by Aedes aegypti, a domestic, day-biting mosquito that prefers to feed on humans.
