Caption: This image captured in April 2019, depicted Christopher Paddock, a medical officer/pathologist from the Division of Vector-Borne Diseases, as he was searching for the Pacific Coast tick, Dermacentor occidentalis, while in Ensenada, Baja California, Mexico, in order to help establish the presence of Rickettsia species in the area. The team, which also included staff from the Division of Global Migration and Quarantine’s U.S.-Mexico Unit, the Imperial County Public Health Department, and Mexican state and local public health agencies, dragged white flannel flags through vegetation, to attract and collect ticks for later testing at CDC.
