This photograph was taken by, Dr. Hugh Mainzer, on July 13, 2019, approximately 2-hours after the start of a blackout, impacting some 73,00 New York City electrical system customers, and potentially affecting over 100,000 individuals located on Manhattan’s West Side and Times Square. This event, which only lasted about 5-hours, coincidently occurred 42-years to the day, after the 1977 multi-day power outage in New York City affected 9-million people. In 2003, a major power outage occurred in the Midwest and Northeast United States, affecting some 50-million people.
