Caption:
Under a magnification of 450X, and processed using hematoxylin-eosin (H&E) stain, this photomicrograph reveals some of the histopathology seen in a sample of placental tissue in a case of congenital syphilis. Note that the chorionic villi were enlarged, and contained dense laminated connective tissue, and the capillaries distributed throughout the villi were compressed by this connective tissue proliferation.
