Under a magnification of 450X, this photomicrograph of an elastin stained section of the myocardial tissue, reveals a fibrous plaque as a result of syphilitic aortitis. The elastic fibers of the tunica media are swollen, irregular and fragmented. A fibrous plaque was replacing the elastic fibers in one area.
