Caption:
This image depicted a left ventrolateral view of a dusky-footed woodrat, Neotoma fuscipes, which had been parasitized by a rodent botfly of the genus, Cuterebra. The fly’s eggs had hatched, and the larvae had burrowed into the rodent’s skin, creating seven fistulous swellings, known as warbles, each containing a botfly larva.
