This photomicrograph of a fecal smear specimen, extracted from a typhoid carrier, processed using a fluorescent antibody (FA) staining technique, which implemented a Salmonella typhi Vi conjugate, revealed the presence of S. typhi bacteria. The FA staining method is used in the rapid detection of typhoid carriers.
