Caption:
This image depicted a frontal view of a Petri dish culture plate, which had contained a Sabouraud dextrose agar growth medium that had been inoculated with a fungal organism of the genus, Alternaria, labeled strain A-256. After having undergone a 10-day incubation period, the culture gave rise to this single, large colony, which displayed a characteristic wooly texture that was covered by short, gray colored aerial hyphae. Being the oldest colonial sector, its central region had begun to darken, displaying an olive-brown coloration.
