Under a magnification of 1600X, and illuminated using the phase contrast method, this photomicrograph revealed the presence of Gram-negative, Fusobacterium necrophorum, formerly known as Sphaerophorus necrophorus bacteria. F. necrophorum is a pleomorphic organism, which in this instance, had assumed a chain-like morphology, including some with bulbous ends.
