This image depicted a frontal view of a Petri dish culture plate, which had contained a Sabouraud dextrose agar growth medium that had been inoculated with a fungal organism, Aspergillus niger. After having undergone an 11-day incubation period, the culture gave rise to this single, large, granular colony, which displayed an overall dark coloration that was in the process of evolving into its characteristic black color, noticeable at its center.
