Caption:
This photomicrograph revealed some of the ultrastructural details exhibited by a parasitic, Echinococcus granulosus protoscolex, or larval organism, which was harbored in the interior of a hydatid cyst, in what is known as the hydatid sand. The sand consists of all the components of the newly developing, Echinococcus tapeworms, including the scoleces, daughter cysts, hooks, and calcareous corpuscles.
