Entitled, “Cantina Desinfectada”, this image was captured by CDC Public Health Prevention Specialist (PHPS), Mia Ramirez, MPH, in the Division of Violence Prevention. The photographer created this photo, while deployed in Mexico City during the H1N1 response. The sign read, “Disinfected Cantina”, encouraging locals to dine inside, which had been reopened for business. During the H1N1 outbreak, many restaurants and local businesses were closed for weeks, and the local economy struggled to attract customers. This photo earned Mia a tie for the Third Place award in the 2010 CDC Connects Annual Public Health in Action Photo Contest, in the category of Programs-International.
